Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 25, 2026
This policy covers both letsgoreal.com and the GoReal app for iPhone. Where the two differ it says which is which — the app can ask for things a website cannot, and it does.
Information we collect
- Account information. Your email address and name. You can add a phone number to your profile, and you enter one when you request a tour; neither is required to have an account. How we get your email depends on how you sign in: with an email and password you give it to us directly; with Sign in with Apple (in the app) or Google, they pass us your name and email address after you approve it.
- Things you save. Favorited homes and any note you attach to one, saved searches and whether each one sends you alerts, commute destinations — including the address you type — and tour requests, with the name, email, phone and time you give.
- Searches you run. The filters and text you search with reach our servers so we can answer them, and a search you run while signed in is associated with your account.
- Location — the iPhone app only, and only if you allow it. iOS gives the app your precise location; what the app sends us is a wide area around you, never the point itself. See Location in the app below for when it is asked for.
- A notification token — the iPhone app only, if you turn alerts on. A device-level identifier Apple issues so alerts can reach your phone. It is not an advertising identifier. See Push notifications below.
- Error reports. When something breaks badly enough to interrupt you, we send ourselves a report so it can be fixed. On the website it carries the error message and stack trace, the URL of the page you were on (which includes your search), and your browser's user-agent string. In the app it carries the error message and which request failed. These go to our own server logs, carry no account identifier, and are not linked to your profile.
There is no analytics or tracking software in either product. No advertising SDK, no attribution or install-tracking library, no session recording, no product-analytics tool, no page-view beacon. The app requests no advertising identifier and will never show you a tracking-permission prompt, because it has nothing to ask for.
Location in the app
The app has one feature that uses your location: a row of homes near where you are. It is built to ask for as little as possible, as late as possible.
- You are never asked at launch. The prompt appears only when you tap to see nearby homes.
- While using the app, once per look. The app asks for “when in use” permission and takes a single reading. It never asks for background or always-on location, and it does not follow you.
- iOS gives it your precise location, and it is used precisely — on your phone. The app measures how far each home is from you so it can put the closest first. That calculation happens on the device.
- We search an area, not your address. Your reading becomes a rectangle at least a couple of kilometres across, and that rectangle is what we send to our search service to find the listings inside it. We do not send the point itself.
- It is not kept. Your location is not stored on your account, and the app discards it when you close it. As with anything you ask us for, the search itself appears in our server logs.
- Saying no costs you nothing. Decline, or turn it off later in iOS Settings, and the app works exactly as before — the nearby row is simply replaced by homes in the cities you have been looking at.
Separately, when you add a commute destination you type an address, and we send that text to a mapping service to turn it into coordinates. That is an address you chose to give us rather than a reading from your device — but it does leave our systems, so it is listed under Maps and address lookups below.
Push notifications
If you turn on alerts in the app, Apple issues a notification token for your copy of the app and we store it against your account so we know where to send them. We store the token and the platform (“ios”) and nothing else — no device model, no OS version, no advertising identifier. Signing out deletes it.
Alerts cover new homes matching a saved search, price drops and status changes on homes you saved, upcoming open houses, and tour reminders. You choose which of those you want, and you can revoke notifications entirely in iOS Settings. Some reminders are scheduled by the app on your device and never involve our servers at all.
We cap what we send: at most two emails and ten push notifications per person per day, however many searches you have saved. Alert emails go only to a verified email address.
How we use your information
- To run the service: answer your searches, sync your favorites, arrange your tours.
- To shape what we show you. A saved search, a favorited home and whether you told us you are a first-time buyer all decide which homes and which guidance appear on your home screen. That is the only personalization we do; nothing is inferred about you from anywhere else.
- To send the alerts you asked for, and to stop when you say so.
- To reply when you contact us, and to act on a problem you report.
- To find and fix faults, which is what the error reports are for.
What we don't do
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your search history or contact details with advertisers, data brokers, or agents you haven't asked to work with. We do not build advertising profiles, and we do not track you across other apps or websites. Our business is a flat fee paid by clients — not your data.
How we share information
We share personal information only with the providers who make the service work, and only what each one needs:
- Google Cloud Platform — hosting, our database, and our logs. Everything you send us passes through it.
- Google (Firebase Authentication and Identity) — handles signing in, which means your email address and, for a password account on the website, your password.
- Google (Firebase Cloud Messaging) and Apple (APNs) — deliver push notifications, so they carry the token and the contents of the alert.
- Apple — if you use Sign in with Apple, and when the app turns an address you typed into coordinates.
- Our email provider — receives your email address and the alert, in order to deliver it.
- The MLS and listing agents — receive what a showing requires, when you ask for a tour.
We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, or property of GoReal or others.
Maps and address lookups
- Mapbox draws our maps. Because your browser or phone fetches the map directly, Mapbox sees your IP address and which area you are looking at — the same way any embedded map works. On the website, an address you type as a commute destination is also sent to Mapbox to be turned into coordinates.
- Walk Score provides the walk, transit and bike scores on a listing page. Our server asks for them using the home's location, not yours; your browser never contacts them.
- Fonts are served from our own domain — loading a page here does not fetch anything from a font host or an analytics host.
On your device and in your browser
Some things stay with you rather than coming to us. On the website we keep a small number of browser-storage entries: a flag saying you are signed in, the sign-in state the authentication library keeps for itself, the homes and searches you looked at recently so we can offer to pick up where you left off, your favorite collections, and the last price you saw on a home you saved so we can tell you when it changes. We use no third-party advertising cookies.
The app stores its sign-in credentials in the iOS keychain, and keeps some things only on your device — the homes you viewed recently, your recent searches, and any map areas you drew. Those are never uploaded, and deleting the app deletes them.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your information for as long as you have an account, and for a limited period afterward as required for legal and record-keeping purposes. To delete your account and associated data, email hello@letsgoreal.com from the address on the account and we will process the request promptly. You can also remove individual items yourself at any time — favorites, saved searches, commute destinations and tour requests all have a delete control.
California privacy rights
If you are a California resident, the CCPA and CPRA give you the right to know what personal information we collect, to request its deletion, to correct inaccurate information, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. Because we do not sell or share personal information as defined by those laws, there is nothing to opt out of — but you can exercise your other rights at any time by emailing hello@letsgoreal.com. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.
Children
GoReal is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the service evolves. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, notify you by email or a notice on the site.
